Normally when I hear a cover version of a classic house track I cringe and slag it off until my attention is distracted by something else. On very few occasions though I hear a track that's as good if not better than the original, Envoy's (Hope Grant) revamp of Rick Siepak's Night Moves is one of these rare moments. Digging out the copy of the original from my vast record collection :) my first impression was there isn't too much difference between the two but where the original now sounds decidedly dated, for obvious reasons it is 15 years old after all, Envoy's version is bang up to date. The vocal mix kicks off with a slight progressive tinge and builds to an acid house monster complete with Hope's vocals and of course the original killer acid bass line. The instrumental mix is exactly what you would imagine, the vocal mix without the vocals :) You have to appreciate the respect that Envoy have shown by sticking closely to the original, Rickster must be welling up with pride! |
