PERCY X & MARK BROOM PRESENT LADY KILLER

Percy X returns to Soma with his buddy Mark Broom for a seductive new twelve of floor rocking techno.

The discofied techno groove of ‘Lady Killer’ is contained on the A Side. This mad, loopy cut will appeal to house as well as techno DJ’s, currently being hammered by Slam and Joey Beltram off test pressing.

On the flip we are treated to two chunky workouts which lie in the more familiar Percy X techno territory. The raw drums of ‘Box Clever’ build and drive with rattling hats, cheeky reverse switches and sneaky effects.

The superlative ‘Indian File’ brings the twelve to a close in fine style.

VARIOUS - SOMA COMPILATION 2003

The year 2003 has been another great one for Soma Records, releasing amazing debut artist albums from hot producers like H_Foundation, Tony Thomas and Master H. It’s now the time of year where we select the pick of our new releases for the annual Soma Compilation, this new revamped edition highlights the diversity of styles within the Soma roster.

This is one of the most impressive editions of the series so far with original tracks and remixes from some dance music’s finest. Remixes include the King Britt version of H_Foundation’s ‘Tonight’, Miguel Migs’ remix of Gene Farris’ ‘Black Satin’, Swag’s remix of H_Foundation ‘New Funk Theory’, Vitalic’s remix of Slam feat Dot Allison ‘Visions’ and Silicone Soul’s Darkroom Dub of all-time classic Schatrax ‘Mispent Years’.

Also included are brand new tracks from Soma favourites Funk D’Void and Envoy. ‘Emotional Content’ and ‘Night Moves’ are currently ripping up dancefloors across the land. The album also contains the summer club anthem ‘C’est La Vie’ by Master H and the popping bongo funk of Tony Thomas’ ‘Cannibals’.

No good Soma compilation would be complete without a good dose of quality techno, and who better to represent this than Bryan Zentz and his debut Faculty X ‘Perils Of Second Sight’ release on Soma. The X-factor concludes the album in fine style with Soma’s finest electric exponent Percy X delivering the emotional ‘On A Day (Remake)’.

This album concludes another vintage year for the label and 2004 looks to be the best yet with new albums from Envoy, Funk D’Void, Slam, Ewan Pearson and Silicone Soul.

FUNK D’VOID ‘EMOTIONAL CONTENT’

This is a big one. Get ready to hear this everywhere from now until Christmas and beyond. Scotland’s hottest techno export, Funk D’Void comes flying back on to the scene with a truly stunning single. ‘Emotional Content’ is Lars Sanberg’s first new material in almost 18 months, and will cement his reputation as one of the most important producers around today. 2001’s seminal ‘Dos’ was a ‘must have’ album and was overwhelmingly received, but the forthcoming album ‘Volume Freak’ which is set for an early 2004 release is shaping up to eclipse all his previous outings and take Funk D’Void flying up to the next level...

The original can only be described as an epic techno tune. Led by the kick drum and trademark FD’V cymbolic percussion, the melodies perfectly display effortless depth and space between the constantly evolving layers. Dynamic synth and basslines roll and undulate with a subtlety of production that typifies every Funk D’Void production. Packed with emotional content...

On the flip Glasgow’s Vince Watson ups the BPM’s and takes the track on more of a techy tip. Maintaining many of the parts of the original this will work beautifully on slightly harder floors, while maintaining the soul that makes the original so special.

ENVOY – NIGHT MOVES

The Somaster of sleazy funk fuelled techno returns as promised to the label with the sublime acid classic ‘Night Moves’. Hope Grant aka Envoy is back with the best music he has ever done, currently putting the finishing touches to an album which we at Soma Towers can only describe as ‘unbelievable’.

First though we have the amazing ‘Night Moves’. Originally this was a classic track from the late eighties by Rickster, now Envoy has updated it, although staying true to the original he has added his own dirty touch and vocals to create what we believe is one of the tracks of the year so far.

Reactions so far have been fantastic with plays on Radio 1 from Pete Seb, Kiss 100 and specialist shows throughout the UK.

DJ support has been very impressive from the likes of Laurent Garnier, Josh Wink, Slam, Tiga, Hernan Cattaneo, Timo Maas, Michel De Hey, Jay Tripwire, Layo, Greg Vickers, Stuart Patterson and many more.

Great press reviews in Mixmag, DJ, Jockey Slut, IDJ, M8 & Update.
